Louisiana firing shots across the bow! Via Breitbart:
Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and the state’s Bond Commission denied $600 million to Citibank and Bank of America over the gun control stance adopted by both companies.
Citibank and Bank of America were both to be part of a road financing plan in the state, but were omitted from the financial plan after arbitrarily placing new gun controls on banking customers.
Louisiana Executive Division press secretary Ruth Wisher told Breitbart News that Landry and State Treasurer John Schroder have been working on the state’s response to corporate gun control “for some time.” Omitting them from the $600 million is part of that response.
On March 23, 2018, Breitbart News reported Citibank’s new gun control regulations, which require gun store customers to quit selling “high capacity” magazines in order to do business with the bank. Citibank also demanded bank store customers refuse long gun sales to anyone 18-20 years old, even though long gun sales to 18-20-year-olds are legal (and 18-20-year-olds can use fully automatic weapons in the U.S. military).
On April 13, 2018, Reuters reported that Bank of America was reworking their policy so as to end with customers “who make military-style firearms for civilians” Bank of America does not differentiate between the fact that military rifles are fully automatic, whereas civilian firearms are only semiautomatic.
I will never understand why large corporations with customers on both sides of a topic will alienate 50% of their clientele. It’s probably a huge misread by their marketing departments thinking their virtue signaling will do them some good. The reality is most customers don’t want the damn companies they’re buying products from to display any political opinion whatsoever. This will only get them into trouble.
It’s sad how blind the left is to their own bullying and discriminatory tactics. “All are welcome” so long as you agree with exactly everything they say. They’ve done this before. Last year Harvard had a commencement just for black students. Willful segregation. And I’m actually all for it; freedom of association. I just want the response to be the same and just as accepted if ever the alternative were to occur. Though I’m sure the response would not be the same.
It’s not hard to imagine a world where there’s one set of stores for conservatives and another for liberals at this pace. That’s really what it appears that they want by having banks preferentially choosing which customers to serve. The only option will be to have conservative only banks that do allow you to buy guns. It’s nice to see Louisiana taking a hard stance on this subject. The only way corporations will bend and change their ways is if they feel it in the wallet. That’s the only pressure they will ever bow to.
