Beethoven: 9th Symphony, 4th Movement

One of the most famous pieces of music of all time; perhaps the crowning achievement of all music and a crown jewel of Western culture.  I am easily moved to tears every time I listen to it.  Check out this version, sung by 10,000 Japanese after the 2011 earthquake that rocked their nation.  The Japanese are a strong, proud, resilient people.  One of my favorite versions.

O Freunde, nicht diese Töne!
Sondern laßt uns angenehmere anstimmen,
und freudenvollere.

Oh friends, not these sounds!
Let us instead strike up more pleasing
and more joyful ones!

Freude!
Freude!

Joy!
Joy!

Freude, schöner Götterfunken
Tochter aus Elysium,
Wir betreten feuertrunken,
Himmlische, dein Heiligtum!
Deine Zauber binden wieder
Was die Mode streng geteilt;
Alle Menschen werden Brüder,
Wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt.

Joy, beautiful spark of divinity,
Daughter from Elysium,
We enter, burning with fervour,
heavenly being, your sanctuary!
Your magic brings together
what custom has sternly divided.
All men shall become brothers,
wherever your gentle wings hover.

Wem der große Wurf gelungen,
Eines Freundes Freund zu sein;
Wer ein holdes Weib errungen,
Mische seinen Jubel ein!
Ja, wer auch nur eine Seele
Sein nennt auf dem Erdenrund!
Und wer’s nie gekonnt, der stehle
Weinend sich aus diesem Bund!

Whoever has been lucky enough
to become a friend to a friend,
Whoever has found a beloved wife,
let him join our songs of praise!
Yes, and anyone who can call one soul
his own on this earth!
Any who cannot, let them slink away
from this gathering in tears!

Freude trinken alle Wesen
An den Brüsten der Natur;
Alle Guten, alle Bösen
Folgen ihrer Rosenspur.
Küsse gab sie uns und Reben,
Einen Freund, geprüft im Tod;
Wollust ward dem Wurm gegeben,
Und der Cherub steht vor Gott.

Every creature drinks in joy
at nature’s breast;
Good and Evil alike
follow her trail of roses.
She gives us kisses and wine,
a true friend, even in death;
Even the worm was given desire,
and the cherub stands before God.

Froh, wie seine Sonnen fliegen
Durch des Himmels prächt’gen Plan,
Laufet, Brüder, eure Bahn,
Freudig, wie ein Held zum Siegen.

Gladly, just as His suns hurtle
through the glorious universe,
So you, brothers, should run your course,
joyfully, like a conquering hero.

Seid umschlungen, Millionen!
Diesen Kuß der ganzen Welt!
Brüder, über’m Sternenzelt
Muß ein lieber Vater wohnen.

Ihr stürzt nieder, Millionen?
Ahnest du den Schöpfer, Welt?
Such’ ihn über’m Sternenzelt!
Über Sternen muß er wohnen.

Be embraced, you millions!
This kiss is for the whole world!
Brothers, above the canopy of stars
must dwell a loving father.

Do you bow down before Him, you millions?
Do you sense your Creator, O world?
Seek Him above the canopy of stars!
He must dwell beyond the stars.

Take a pass on this show

There’s a new show on channel 4 in the UK called “Mums Make Porn”.  I think the title speaks for itself.  Apparently it’s about mothers who were fed up with the kind of porn on the internet and decided to direct a film they’d be proud to show their children, and do.  Yes.  Really.

A group of five mothers were so disgusted by porn they found online they decided to make their own X-rated film that they would be happy to show their children.

The women made their adult movie as part of a Channel 4 TV show called Mums Make Porn.

Although they didn’t star in the video themselves, they helped direct and produce it in a bid to create porn that is realistic and promotes positive attitudes towards sex.

The three-part series follows their journey into the adult entertainment industry, which sees one mother so distressed by internet porn she quits the project altogether.

One mother is reduced to tears by the violent, rape-based content they find and another throws up.

At the end of the programme the women show the video to their children.

And a little further down:

‘The Porn World is dominated primarily by men, so as a group of woman/mums we address our concerns, we provoke conversation into sex education and address topics such as consent, safe sex and equality.’

Sarah Louise added that on a personal note she wanted to address negative stereotypes of what women should look like and said she was ‘extremely proud’ of the finished project.

She wrote: ‘We hope you keep an open mind and watch Wednesday 20th at 10.00pm, episode one, over 18s only.’

This is how far we have fallen as a society.  These women unironically think they are being good mothers by filming their own porn to show their children.  They are actually proud of this.  Feminism at its finest.  Here’s an idea: rather than kowtow to a degenerate industry that is pure filth on all levels, discourage your kids from watching porn in the first place?

Allegri – Miserere mei, Deus

One of the prettiest pieces of music you will ever hear in your life.  Truly inspired from on high.

From Infogalactic:

It was the last of twelve falsobordone Miserere settings composed and chanted at the service since 1514 and is the most popular: at some point, it became forbidden to transcribe the music and it was allowed to be performed only at those particular services, thus adding to the mystery surrounding it. Writing it down or performing it elsewhere was punishable by excommunication.[1] The setting that escaped from the Vatican is actually a conflation of verses set by Gregorio Allegri around 1638 and Tommaso Bai (also spelled “Baj”; 1650–1718) in 1714.

Three authorized copies of the work were distributed prior to 1770: to the Holy Roman EmperorLeopold I; to the King of Portugal; and to Padre (Giovanni Battista) Martini.[1] However, none of them succeeded in capturing the beauty of the Miserereas performed annually in the Sistine Chapel. According to the popular story (backed up by family letters), the fourteen-year-old Mozart was visiting Rome, when he first heard the piece during the Wednesday service. Later that day, he wrote it down entirely from memory, returning to the Chapel that Friday to make minor corrections. Less than three months after hearing the song and transcribing it, Mozart had gained fame for the work and was summoned to Rome by Pope Clement XIV, only instead of excommunicating the boy, the Pope showered praises on him for his feat of musical genius and awarded him the Chivalric Order of the Golden Spur.[2] Some time during his travels, he met the British historian Charles Burney, who obtained the piece from him and took it to London, where it was published in 1771. The work was also transcribed by Felix Mendelssohn in 1831 and Franz Liszt, and various other 18th and 19th century sources survive. Since the lifting of the ban, Allegri’s Miserere has become one of the most popular a cappella choral works now performed.[citation needed]

The original ornamentation that made the work famous were Renaissance techniques that preceded the composition itself, and it was these techniques that were closely guarded by the Vatican. Few written sources (not even Burney’s) showed the ornamentation, and it was this that created the legend of the work’s mystery. However, the Roman priest Pietro Alfieri published an edition in 1840 with the intent of preserving the performance practice of the Sistine choir in the Allegri and Bai compositions, including ornamentation.

Diversity hires incoming at Alaska Airlines

You should probably stop flying Alaska Airlines:

Today’s flight deck is full of incredible professionals, but also lacking diversity. African American female pilots make up about one half of 1 percent of all professional pilots across the industry. At Alaska, we’re all about people and reflecting those we serve, but this statistic is a reminder of how far we have to go.

This morning, we signed a new pledge with Sisters of the Skies, a nonprofit committed to pilot diversity. We aim to increase our female African American pilots over the next six years across Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, and support the path to expose and inspire more young women to get there.

“When we foster an inclusive environment that recognizes, respects, and visibly reflects allpeople, it makes us stronger,” said Andy Schneider, Alaska Airlines vice president of people. “Quite simply, creating an airline people love is not possible unless we walk the talk around diversity and inclusion.”

Today, we only have four African American female pilots at Alaska and Horizon combined, which is about 1 percent. It begs the question: why so few?

Unfortunately, there isn’t a pool of qualified African American women ready to be hired. And creating this pool takes time.

Would you feel better flying with a particular airline knowing your pilot wasn’t the best available option, but rather hired to fill a particular diversity quota?  It is time to move on to using a different company when their aim shifts from providing the best possible service or product and focuses instead on social justice initiatives.

Affirmative action is not only racist and unfair to those who are well qualified but are not accepted because they do not fulfill a diversity quota, but it also takes away from qualified candidates who are people of color.  Harvard University is currently in a law suit for alleged discrimination against Asians.  They regularly accept African Americans with far lower test scores than whites or Asians.  This happens when applying to medical and law school as well.  Now, knowing this, it is easy to see how one could discriminate against wanting a black doctor or lawyer knowing that some are admitted with lower scores and potentially perform at a lower standard.  Setting aside how awful this is to begin with, it also takes away from legitimately well-qualified African-American candidates who may have scored high on test scores and gotten in legitimately.  But knowing there is this bias, someone looking for a surgeon or lawyer may think they are less qualified knowing how the system works.

Whether it is hiring someone for a job or choosing a surgeon, it would be nice for people to be judged on merit rather than skin color or sex.  Those who think they are doing some kind of good by promoting diversity hires are the real racists and are performing a disservice to the very groups they are hoping to help.  Everybody loses in the end when you hire to fulfill some racial or sexual quota rather than hiring the best person for the job.

Pure Evil

An old article from 2015 is circulating around voat about reports of Planned Parenthood keeping aborted babies alive to harvest organs.  This is the hill worth dying on, folks.  This is pure evil.  And it is not debatable.  Shame on any pro-choicer who defends funding this institution.  Enough with the pleasantries.  IT IS NOT OKAY TO KEEP BABIES ALIVE TO HARVEST THEIR ORGANS.  I thought I was once pro-choice for very early abortions.  No more.  Via the article:

In an undercover video released Wednesday, a former technician for a tissue-harvesting company details how an aborted baby was kept alive so that its heart could be harvested at a California Planned Parenthood facility, raising more legal questions about the group’s practices.

Holly O’Donnell, a former blood and tissue procurement technician for the biotech startup StemExpress, also said she was asked to harvest an intact brain from the late-term, male fetus whose heart was still beating after the abortion.

StemExpress supervisor “gave me the scissors and told me that I had to cut down the middle of the face. And I can’t even describe what that feels like,” said Ms. O’Donnell, who has been featured in earlier videos by the Center for Medical Progress, a pro-life group that previously had released six undercover clips involving Planned Parenthoodpersonnel and practices.

And a little further down:

California law also prohibits any kind of experimentation on a fetus with a discernible heartbeat, said the Center for Medical Progress, which is calling for the federal government to cease its $500 million a year support to Planned Parenthood and for it to be investigated.

“Today’s video is especially gruesome, and it shows, once again, the barbarity of what takes place at Planned Parenthood clinics across the country,” said Rep. Joseph R. Pitts, Pennsylvania Republican and chairman of the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on health, one of several congressional panels investigating Planned Parenthood.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, Utah Republican and chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said Wednesday that all the videos are “disturbing,” and his committee’s investigation will look into whether “any federal funding supported transactions involving fetal tissue.”

“Top-level employees of Planned Parenthood admit to changing their procedures to harvest intact bodies of unborn children for body-part trafficking,” said Rep. Trent Franks, Arizona Republican and chairman of the House Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution and civil justice.

Mr. Franks and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, Virginia Republican, also said Wednesday that they have written to 58 Planned Parenthood affiliates. They are seeking 10 years of data about all abortions, late-term abortions, “born-alive” infants, fetal tissue collections and any modifications of abortion techniques to “increase the odds of preserving intact fetal tissue and organs.”

Five states — Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, Utah and New Hampshire — already have defunded Planned Parenthood.

The video is posted below.  It is a little gruesome at parts, especially from the 5′ 30″ mark going forward.

The article was from 2015.  Planned Parenthood’s annual report from 2017-2018 shows that they are still well funded over half a billion dollars a year from the government.  That is your tax money, folks.

This is what happens when you turn away from God.  People can roll their eyes; once upon a time I would have too.  But it is true.  Since we have turned away from Christianity can we honestly say we are better off as a country?  Have we really progressed as a society?  No.  Christianity instilled a moral compass that has been eroded to the point where you are shamed if you question the KILLING OF BABIES.  Where some people will honestly justify this, like it is an acceptable moral position, saying a woman has a right to choose what to do with her body.  NO.  The moment you decide to make a bad decision, the moment you choose to get blackout drunk and sleep with someone you probably don’t even know, you have made your decision.  When another life now depends on your own, you do not have the right to kill it.  Shame on us for ever allowing it to come to this.  Where we cannot even hold that moral position without caving to some BS about “my body my choice”.  It is not progress to kill a human life because a woman wants carte blanche to sleep with as many partners as she wants and then not suffer any of the consequences of her actions.  Even worse is that we are all paying for it.  Why are we funding birth control measures?  Why are we funding abortions?  Yes, Planned Parenthood receives federal reimbursement through Medicaid.  Medicaid covers abortions.

Enough is enough.  Do not commit the sin of omission by sitting idly by knowing what you now know about the situation.  Write your state representatives.  Do not be afraid to call out pro-choicers, feminists, or anyone else who will try to justify this unjustifiable position.  Vote out the politicians who support funding Planned Parenthood.  Consider moving to states that will not fund this.  The reasons continue to pile up for why I should leave California and move back to New Hampshire.  California is at the very heart of all of this.  We all need to step up and take action.  Merely shaking our heads and saying how terrible it is is not enough.  Spread the word.

Girls can now join…Boy Scouts Program (now called Scouts BSA)

Via Breitbart:

A longtime American tradition ended Friday as the Boy Scouts of America officially changed its name to Scouts BSA. Now, girls ages 11 through 17 may join and participate in programs, including earning the Eagle Scout rank.

“For the first time in its 100+ year history, the iconic program of the Boy Scouts of America is open to both young men and young women,” the website states with a photo of girls accompanying the text.

“Scouts BSA is a year-round program for boys and girls in fifth grade through high school that provides fun, adventure, learning, challenge, and responsibility to help them become the best version of themselves,” the website reads.

The continued attack of our nation’s institutions from the SJWs plods on.  This Breitbart commentator put it nicely:

BSAComment

A lot of people will say that is nonsense.  But no, it is not.  This is what they do.  Chip away, chip away, chip away until they have everything and control everything so they can teach what they want and indoctrinate with their poison.  The Boy Scouts caved to pressure and allowed gay members in 2013 and gay leaders in 2015.  2017 opened it up to transgenders.  And 2019 is full-fledged female participation as well.  And on some level this has nothing to do with gays or transgenders or girls.  This isn’t an attack on them.  It is an attack on the BSA for caving to pressure because of identity politics.  And if I were a gambling man I would say the next thing they attack is the scout oath and scout law, which both allude to a duty to God.  Because, you know, this is alienating the atheists.  We cannot risk offending anybody!

Scout Oath
On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law

The Scout Law has 12 points. Each is a goal for every Scout. A Scout tries to live up to the Law every day. It is not always easy to do, but a Scout always tries.

A Scout is:

TRUSTWORTHY. Tell the truth and keep promises. People can depend on you.

LOYAL. Show that you care about your family, friends, Scout leaders, school, and country.

HELPFUL. Volunteer to help others without expecting a reward.

FRIENDLY. Be a friend to everyone, even people who are very different from you.

COURTEOUS. Be polite to everyone and always use good manners.

KIND. Treat others as you want to be treated . Never harm or kill any living thing without good reason.

OBEDIENT. Follow the rules of your family, school, and pack. Obey the laws of your community and country.

CHEERFUL. Look for the bright side of life. Cheerfully do tasks that come your way. Try to help others be happy.

THRIFTY. Work to pay your own way. Try not to be wasteful. Use time, food, supplies, and natural resources wisely.

BRAVE. Face difficult situations even when you feel afraid. Do what you think is right despite what others might be doing or saying.

CLEAN. Keep your body and mind fit . Help keep your home and community clean.

REVERENT. Be reverent toward God. Be faithful in your religious duties. Respect the beliefs of others.

As with all institutions that kowtow to identity politics, this will likely kill off the institution once and for all.  And given the extent of the metastases I say good riddance at this point.  It is sad it had to come to this.

They are already dealing with a bunch of sexual abuse lawsuits.  I cannot see the number of sexual lawsuits getting any smaller given the demographic of the group now.

The Girl Scouts are rightly disgruntled about this and have sued.  Both institutions are probably done now.  And whether you care about these institutions or not you should still care about how they’re being infested and ruined.  This is how they operate.  They infest.  They are cancer.  They have done it to the Boy Scouts, our schools, and our churches.  Most people will think it is harmless: what does it matter if they allow <insert group here> into <insert institution here>.  You think it stops there?  No.  They take control and then push an agenda that aligns with their ideology.  Much like what is happening now with huge groups of immigrants coming in.  You think they won’t push their own policies when they elect their own people into office?  Of course not.

Forever Victims

An opinion piece from AZCentral:

A few weeks ago, I attended a holiday party at a downtown Phoenix restaurant. I walked around to view the photographs on the wall.

Then a photograph caught my attention.

Friends said, “It’s coal miners at a pub after work.” It was a photograph of coal miners with blackened faces. I asked a Latinx and white woman for their opinion. They said it looked like coal miners at a pub after work. Then they stepped back, frowned and said it’s men in blackface.

I asked the waitress to speak with a manager. Instead, I spoke with a white restaurant owner. I explained to him why the photograph was offensive. Evidently, someone else had made a similar comment about the photograph before.

Yet, the photograph remained on the wall. He said he would talk to the other owners and get back to me. While leaving, I asked him had he spoke with the other owners. He had not spoken with them, but mentioned Google said it’s coal miners after work.

In art, everyone sees something different

Who determines what’s offensive?

For me, the coal miners disappeared and a film honored for its artistic merit, despite being the most racist propaganda films ever, D.W. Griffith’s “Birth of a Nation” (1915) surfaces, in which white actors appeared in blackface. The white owner saw coal miners in the photograph. Therefore, it was not offensive.

And a little further down:

Viewers cannot determine the intention of an artist’s work. Art also exposes society’s blind spots. Blackface is only a glimpse of a larger issue. The larger issue is the lack of representation of marginalized people and their voices in Phoenix.

Frequently, I enter art galleries and I am not represented in the art, which leads to uneducated curation for exhibitions. While shopping I am ignored because it is assumed I unable to purchase anything, or I am followed by a security guard because it is assumed that I am a threat to the store.

Each assumption is based on a stereotype. Blackface caricatures stereotypes of black people.

At the downtown Phoenix restaurant, my concern that the photograph of men in blackface was a threat to me and my face and voice were ignored.

A business’ photograph of men with blackened faces culturally says to me, “Whites Only.” It says people like me are not welcome.

Here is the photograph in question.

coalminers

Coal miners enjoying a beer after work: RACIST!!!

It really is quite sad.  I could not possibly live my life acting like a victim for every single thing I perceive as some kind of assault to my existence.  Newsflash, Rashaad, it is not all about you.  I’m sorry (no) that you aren’t represented in the art at the art gallery you went to.  Similarly, white people don’t sit around all day wondering how we can offend and marginalize black people.  We honestly don’t care that much about you.  Most of us just want to live our lives and be left alone.  You should do the same.

Perpetual victimhood is almost like a disease.  It is the ressentiment that Nietzsche frequently wrote about.  And it is the kind of internal negativity that can destroy a person.  Who wants to live their life as a victim anyways?  Why would you want to give anyone that much control over how you feel and act?  Stop being so pathetically weak and whiny.

Lastly, Rashaad, the world you are asking for would be a totalitarian shithole.  You could not possibly put out any art if the deciding factor was whether it offended someone or not.  That is completely insane.

Decision time for the Catholic Church

The Catholic Church, in some respects rightfully so, has lost some of its clout and its standing as a positive institution to the general public, especially in the last few decades.  There are myriad reasons for this but sexual abuse scandals in particular have been a huge part of it.  Author Frédéric Martel, a homosexual socialist himself, is releasing a book soon, In the Closet of the Vatican, which is to shine more light on the situation.  In a press conference set for today lifesitenews.com reports:

According to the press release, the new book will “expose the rot at the heart of the Vatican and the Roman Catholic Church today.” For this book, the author has done research for four years and in thirty different countries, and he has conducted “extensive interviews with those in power.”

Martel claims to be able to show us with his new book the underlying connection between the following topics: the celibacy of priests, the condemnation of the use of contraceptives, the cover-up of countless cases of sexual abuse, the resignation of Benedict XVI, misogyny among the clergy, the dramatic fall of  vocations to the priesthood, the plotting against Pope Francis.” His book is meant to “reveal these secrets.”

Martel describes in his book, according to the press release, a “system founded on a clerical culture of secrecy which starts in junior seminars and continues right up to the Vatican itself.” It is also based on “the double lives of priests and on extreme homophobia.” Thus, according to this book, there exists a certain “schizophrenia in the Church.”

According to the press release, however, “the more a prelate is homophobic, the more likely it is that he is himself gay.” “Behind rigidity there is always something hidden, in many cases a double life.” These words of Pope Francis are being specifically quoted because he himself  “unlocked the Closet” of the Vatican.

And a little bit further down:

While these pro-homosexual authors like Sullivan and Martel might wish to promote the acceptance of homosexuality in the Church, Michael Voris explains, people like Father James Martin, S.J. go into a similar direction, though not yet fully claiming: “change the Church’s teaching!” “But he has said,” Voris adds, “change that [expression] ‘objectively disordered’, get rid of that in the Catechism.”

Voris actually calls Father Martin out, saying that “we have various Jesuit seminarians telling us that in private at their private retreats, Martin admits to [his] being gay.”

“[Father Martin,] Refute what we are saying,” Voris adds. “You now have the opportunity to deny it.” For Voris, the Jesuit Martin is “another gay priest who is going around trying to change the Church’s teaching.”

Further discussing the article written by Andrew Sullivan, Voris comments “Sullivan thinks ‘dump the teaching [on homosexuality].’” “We would say: […] don’t dump the teaching,” as Church Militant’s Bradley Eli responds. Voris adds that he recently spoke with a bishop who told him that “he knows a number of bishops who are gay.”

Commenting on Martel’s upcoming book, Christine Niles says: “Nobody likes a hypocrite, nobody likes a liar. Nobody likes people who lead double lives.” “If you take a vow,” she continues, “and you promised chastity and continence, but you are secretly breaking that vow, people like him [Martel] they don’t like that.” Niles and Voris agree with Martel on this point, saying “he is correct on that.”

Commenting on Martel’s claim that the homosexual network within the Vatican is much bigger than expected, Niles says that the book will be an “eye opener” for many Catholic lay people about the fact that “the Vatican is essentially being run, largely, by homosexuals.” Voris also then mentions the Polish priest, Father Dariusz Oko, who told Church Militant years ago that “half of the guys running the Vatican are gay.” (See here for an interview with Father Oko.)

This is a pretty huge decision point for the Church.  They have an opportunity here to either push back against the horrifying amounts of rot and decay amongst their ranks, or make it even worse by normalizing and accepting it.  There is an interesting subplot of the whole book release in the intentions of the author.  Everyone agrees the homosexuality and abuse scandals need to be exposed and dealt with.  The author clearly has an agenda of outing this stuff to normalize homosexuality in the Catholic Church.  And it wouldn’t shock me for one second if it was discovered Pope Francis was gay.

But the Church needs to decide what to do with this now.  I suspect I know the direction they will go, but we will see.  They have an opportunity to use the book to bare all, acknowledge a huge problem, and deal with it swiftly by expelling all of these priests who lead these double lives, against their vows, and start anew.  Anything less would likely be a continued decay of the Church into obscurity and even more of an enemy to true Christianity.

Whether you are Catholic or not, all Christians should hope and pray for true reform in the Catholic Church.  The opinion of Christianity, fair or not, is usually linked to that of the Catholic Church.  When the Catholic Church is engaging in un-Christian activities, fair or not that is viewed across the entirety of Christianity as a whole.  This ripple effect is what turns many people off to Christianity, when in reality they are seeing decisions made by humans misinterpreting (or even more sinister, on purpose) Christ’s teachings and applying it to the Church.  It would be a very slippery slope to normalize homosexuality in the Church and I think it would turn off many of the Church’s members.  If the Church were smart, going forward they would allow the clergy to marry, and maybe even require it.  Whether you agree with homosexuality or not it should trouble everyone when clergy LIE about it and bottle it up to the point it becomes so repressed that the pressure is released through terrible acts.  Allow clergy to marry and not only will it flush out some of the rot but will open the door to many more potential clergy, given that they are having problems attracting more anyway.  The alternative, as the author hopes, in normalizing homosexuality and opening it up more in the Church, I fear, would be another step down the ladder away from true Christianity in an institution that is already struggling greatly.

Duke professor steps down after suggesting students should speak English on campus

Diversity is our strength.  Diversity is our strength.  Diversity is our strength.  Tell yourself this mantra day and night for the next year.  It will totally make it true.  Via Inside Higher Ed:

Duke University asked a professor to step down from her administrative role after she sent an email to students advising them not to speak Chinese in the medical school building and suggesting that failure to speak in English in nonclassroom settings could make it harder for them to get jobs and internships and secure research opportunities with faculty.

Megan Neely, an assistant professor and director of graduate studies for a master’s program in biostatistics, sent an email Friday to first- and second-year students in the program warning them of what she wrote were complaints from two other unnamed professors about students speaking in Chinese in the student lounge and study areas.

“Hi All,” Neely wrote. “I had two separate faculty members come to my office today and ask if I had pictures of the [master’s in biostatistics] students. I shared with them the head shots of the first- and second-year cohorts taken during orientation. Both faculty members picked out a small group of first-year students who they observed speaking Chinese (in their words, VERY LOUDLY) in the student lounge/study areas. I asked why they were curious about the students’ names. Both faculty members replied that they wanted to write down the names so they could remember them if the students ever interviewed for an internship or asked to work with them for a master’s project. They were disappointed that these students were not taking the opportunity to improve their English and were being so impolite as to have a conversation that not everyone on the floor could understand.” (Emphasis per original email.)

Neely’s email continued, “To international students, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep these unintended consequences in mind when you choose to speak in Chinese in the building. I have no idea how hard it has been and still is for you to come to the U.S. and have to learn in a non-native language. As such, I have the upmost respect for what you are doing. That being said, I encourage you to commit to using English 100 percent of the time when you are in Hock or any other professional setting.”

And the reaction from the Asian Students Association:

“This behavior is not only hypocritical — given Duke’s dependence on international students and faculty for their undergraduate and graduate programs, desire to present itself as a ‘global university’, and partnership with Duke Kunshan University — but also discriminatory,” the Asian Students Association at Duke and the Duke International Association said in a joint statement about the emails on Facebook. Duke Kunshan is a reference to Duke’s branch campus in China.

Inevitable in 2019 in America.  Everyone is a victim and there is no common language or culture or shared values.  This is what happens when you import all that multiculturalism has to offer.

To recap: professor is told by other professors that some students were speaking obnoxiously loud in another language.  Professor, looking out for the students, mind you, suggests that they should take advantage of the opportunity to practice their English skills while on campus, which may even help them get research opportunities.  Reaction: outrage and she has to step down.

A few things.  This wouldn’t be an issue in a predominantly homogeneous society.  A country with 90%+ of people of the same nationality, with the same culture, the same language, the same beliefs, makes things a lot easier and run a lot smoother.  That ship has clearly sailed for the United States in its current form.  As mentioned yesterday, it should always behoove the guests of a country to respect the laws and the customs of the host country.  Expressing outrage, at a SUGGESTION, is not respecting the host country.  Though we are seeing this increasingly more and more from visitors.  As if it needed to be said again, apologizing to the outrage mob will never absolve you in their eyes.  It will only show weakness and they will continue to pounce until you are out.

College campuses have been the breeding ground for this type of behavior since at least the 1960s.  It will only get worse.  With the current trajectories there will be a time in the not so distant future where students demand signs and translators in English, Spanish, Chinese, and who knows what else.  This is what happens when you do not encourage assimilation.  Every tribe of people will bring THEIR same customs and cultures and languages to America and not bother learning OUR customs, our culture, our language.  Remind me again, who wants this?
